Tool #11

In YOUR blog post, discuss at least three things you would want to make sure your students understand about being good digital citizens. Explain briefly how you would "teach" the idea of digital citizenship to your students.

1. Information responsibility- Everything that you put on the internet should be backed up with facts.  Take credit for your ideas and opinions and give credit to others.

2. Digital Security (self-protection): electronic precautions to guarantee safety. Sudents should not put all of their information on the net.  Also students should be able to recognize sites that keep their info secure. I would explain this by saying that you use locks to secure things of value or don't tell others you don't know your name. I t's the same with the net and websites.

6. Digital Law: electronic responsibility for actions and deeds.  I feel that this is important because we don't want students to be destructive with computers.  I would explain to students that just as destroying others property physically is wrong, destroy someone's website or computer digitally is just the same.

  2. Your points are well taken. I cover all these issues of digital citizenship through library lessons for all grade levels. The more people the students here these concerns from, the better!
